Introduction

 

 

The Air pod max is a wireless headphone that is produced by apple. It was released in December of 2020. At launch it was an instant success selling just under 1 million units in 2021. However, for the corporate side of a large company like apple it was not enough to really call it a “success”. They were hoping for a larger number of sales with more of an impact on consumer lifestyle. This is the case with some of their other products such as the iPhone or the apple air pods which are both big hits every year with annual releases. However, the air pod maxes since its release has had no sequel release or improvements upon the original model. Although the air pod maxes are wireless headphones, they take a new approach on the overall idea of wireless headphones. First lets looks at the definition of a wireless headphone. Wireless microphones and headsets are examples of short-range systems that must maintain high audio quality over the vagaries of changing path lengths and indoor environments, while having small size and low cost. To help them achieve this, they have a signal conditioning element in their baseband path before modulation. (Alan Bensky ,2019)

 

            The air pod maxes were designed with the idea of comfortability in mind and also improving on the idea of the “wireless headphone”. With the combined ingenuity of a leading tech/lifestyle company like apple they created something that is not only very well made but also comfortable in day-to-day life. The air pod maxes are a listening device that can be used for listening to music, videos and picking up phone calls. What sets it apart is its noise cancellation and dynamic head tracking with spatial audio (Apple,2023). The noise cancellation silences your surroundings making you hear only the music. While the spatial audio and dynamic head tracking allow it so that it feels as if the music is not only surrounding you but moving with you. It is designed to seamlessly interact with any apple phone, computer or tablet product. It features 20 hours of battery life. Something unique about these headphones is that they are always on. However, when in the case goes into a state of low power to conserve energy.

Case

 

            The apple air pod case is made of real leather. While the inside of the has a suede lining for a comfortable feel and touch but also so the material on the headphone stays protected. The case’s function is to set the air pods into a low power mode so that it conserves energy and also charges at a faster rate. The case is displayed by itself in figure #2

Headband

            The headbands’ function is to have the earcups sit on top of your head. On the air pod max the headband is made of breathable knit mesh (Apple,2023). This is to reduce the pressure on the user’s head. It is also in the shape of a canopy for better support atop one’s head. It also has a stainless-steel frame with telescoping arms. U can see this in figure #3 below

Ear Cushions

         The function of the ear cushions is to provide comfort and support around the ear while wearing the headphones. Specifically for the air pod max however how the ear cushions are designed provide an enhanced experience when using noise cancellation. Allowing for tight seal so that no sound escapes or gets in. These ear cushions are made up of a custom design mesh textile with acoustically engineered memory foam (Apple,2023). As stated before this is for maximum comfort and an immersive sound experience. The ear cushions can be seen below in figure #4.

Ear cups

            The ear cups hold the important aspects of the headphone that produce the sound and make the headphones themselves unique. The ear cups are anodized aluminum cups. This just means that they have smooth finish and texture. Let’s get to the details inside the cups. There is an apple H1 headphone chip in each ear cup In total the cups have nine microphones. Six of these are facing outward to detect noise in your environment (Apple,2023). Two are faced inward to see what you’re hearing, and one is helping to isolate your voice for phone calls and voice commands (Apple,2023). Next is the most important part which is the dynamic driver. Not only does it produce a high frequency range to hear the rich details of each sound but the ring magnet motor inside of the driver minimizes harmonic distortion which in turn allows you to have consistent clear playback at full volume (Apple,2023). While a detailed picture with components is not available there is a photo of the complete item below in figure #5.

                                                 Conclusion

 

 

The air pod max is a stunning invention from apple. In recent years the innovation of wireless and Bluetooth products has taken leaps and bounds. The market in recent years has moved away from headphones specifically and is now geared towards wireless and Bluetooth earbuds. However, apple still took a chance and took their own spin on a wireless headphone. Giving it not only that apple feels but also an overall quality product that is aesthetically pleasing. Hopefully in the future they can improve on their blueprint with this headphone further advancing the market for wireless/Bluetooth headphones.

Self Reflection

• This paper allowed me to further my researching skills as I had to look in depth at certain sources to see if they were viable or not.
• The language in this text I believe wasn’t two complex as we are talking about a very widely known and topic and company. Most parts don’t require a huge understanding to comprehend their use.
• Within the process of writing this paper I gained more knowledge on proper language when writing a technical description. This included things such as not using words such as “I” or anything related to a personal thought on the description of the item.
• I also gained more knowledge on technical descriptions in general. With the use of looking through past work and reviewing my peers work I gained a better understanding on this type of writing.
• In this paper I described a product of apple. However, it can also be looked as me advertising the product or persuading one to buy based on the high end components it holds
• I cited sources properly in this text and used proper in text citation
